Effective Listening

When reading through chapter 3, I really encourage students to pay close attention to the concepts covered in the section of Effective Listening. This section not only distinguishes between active and passive listening, but describes the three types of active listening, including informational, critical, and empathetic.

These are fairly easy to understand, but I always recommend that students pay close attention to the examples offered through your textbook. I think you will find them to be exceptionally helpful to your understanding.

Most importantly, don’t neglect the extra boxes in your text, such as the ETHICS in Communication box found on page 53. I guarantee there will be questions on the first test relating to this box.
