When writing speeches, I have found that some students get tunnel vision on a topic. They start writing a speech, focus on one idea, and they stick to it, no matter how much they start to despise their own brilliant idea!
This is why I recommend that you start the semester by considering some alternatives. It does happen that you get within a month of the project and the research just isn’t panning out. You aren’t getting where you want to go with your topic. You don’t have enough sources to back up your ideas. Or worse yet, your sources directly go against your very premise.
For this reason, try to think of a few options that might be suitable now. Maybe you won’t need them! But if your first choice becomes too overwhelming, you have a back-up plan that might be easier! Try for these options now so that you can better prepare for later!
